Costs Estimate

There is no such thing as a 'typical' case. However, the following is intended to provide you with some idea of what range of fees may be anticipated for particular types of case. These fees do not include VAT or Disbursements. These examples are included as a Guide only and should not be taken as an estimate or quote for your particular case. Please note that our minimum fee for any matter is £700 plus VAT.

The total cost in relation to summary only road traffic offences dealt with at a single hearing will be between £2,000 and £5,000 plus VAT.

Our Standard Hourly Rate is £400 plus VAT

The work will be carried out by Graham Wallis, Solicitor, 5 years + Post Qualification Experience. Graham Wallis supervises his own work.

Disbursements may include Counsel's fees. Counsel's fees will be between £2,000 ad £5,000 plus VAT.

Disbursements may include Road Traffic Collision Experts. RTC Experts fees will be between £2,000 and £5,000 plus VAT.

The service includes attendance at the Magistrates Court at a single hearing. If more than one hearing is required then the cost will increase.

We do not use conditional fee or damages-based agreements.

Likely Disbursements for Court Attendance

1. Counsel Fees

  • Purpose: Instructing a barrister to represent the client at hearings, trials, or sentencing.
  • Typical Range:
    • Magistrates’ Court: £250 – £750 + VAT
    • Crown Court: £500 – £2,000+ + VAT (depending on case complexity and experience of counsel)

2. Expert Reports

  • Purpose: Medical, psychological, forensic or other expert evidence in support of the defence.
  • Common Examples and Ranges:
    • GP/medical report: £75 – £250 + VAT
    • Psychiatric/Psychological report: £350 – £1,500 + VAT
    • Forensic science reports: £500 – £2,500 + VAT
    • Interpreter/translation services: £50 – £100/hour + VAT

3. Travel and Accommodation

  • Purpose: Incurred by the solicitor or expert where cases are heard outside the local area.
  • Typical Costs:
    • Mileage: £0.45 per mile
    • Train fares: standard class, variable
    • Overnight stay (if required): £80 – £150 + VAT

4. Court Transcripts or Records

  • Purpose: Used for appeals or complex case preparation.
  • Typical Cost: £100 – £500 + VAT depending on length and urgency.
